A sad anniversary...

... Sophie Lancaster died one year ago today.

Sophie sadly died on August 24th 2007, following the horrific attack on her and her partner Rob in Stubbeylee Park, Bacup, Lancashire on the 11th August. Sophie and Rob dressed in their unique way, expressing their individuality as creative artistic people.

In memory of this wonderful woman, we played VNV's Illusion last night on the show. Should have said more about it, but in some ways it's still too painful to speak of...

Paraphrasing a wise statement: don't let hatred have the final word.

Copied from the Sophie Myspace bulletin:

TODAY IS THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF SOPHIE'S DEATH

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THE LOVELY, THOUGHTFUL MESSAGES YOU HAVE SENT FOR SYLVIA [Sophie's mother] AND FAMILY AND ROB AND FAMILY. THEY BRING A GREAT DEAL OF COMFORT AT THIS VERY DIFFICULT TIME.

PLEASE TAKE SOME TIME OUT TODAY TO REMEMBER SOPHIE AND ROB AND MAYBE LIGHT A CANDLE, HAVE A MOMENT OF REFLECTION, SAY A PRAYER OR MAKE A NOISE. WHATEVER IS THE RIGHT THING FOR YOU.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US ENSURE SOPHIE IS NOT FORGOTTEN AND FOR BEING BEHIND THE CAMPAIGN TO CHANGE THINGS FOR OTHERS.

PEACE AND RESPECT TO YOU ALL
